Patrick Brosset 26c8e338b5 Introduce a few unit tests for the grid overlay logic ...

In particular, the grid overlay uses complicated logic to position
the grid line number labels. The new test file introduced in this
change adds a bunch of test for it.

This change also adds a few test cases to the already existing
common helper test.
