Kim-Anh Tran 159f3def48 [e2e] Change pending events to return undefined and remove no-op calls

This changes pending events to return undefined if no event has been
logged to cause the `waitForFunction` to time out as expected.

This also removes the no-op calls to `getPendingEvents` which
didn't install the listener before.
