with exit code -1 right after the WSL2 kernel is installed, e.g. "The

VM starting and being shut down by the guest seconds later.
Keep collecting the existing diagnostics for every failed attempt, then
unregister any partial distro, shut WSL down, and retry the import up to
three times before failing the job.

The list widget and sessions list CSS pair row :hover rules with a .hovered class, so hover-only actions can be rendered without a pointer. Row operations that only tests need live in a TestSessionsList subclass under test/, keeping them out of the production API.

Archive actions now take each fixture's wording from the production action descriptors by command id, which also covers wording-specific titles outside the shared presentation, such as Show Done Chats.

With a chat background, the new-session composer's bottom-row controls,
including the combined Mode + Permissions picker, were transparent in
the default dark themes. chatView.css repeated the chatWidget.css
surface rule at a higher specificity but fell back to
button.secondaryBackground, which 2026 Dark and Dark Modern make
transparent. The new-session view has no chat list to set
--vscode-chat-list-background, so that fallback always applied.
Removing the duplicate lets the chatWidget.css rule and its opaque
session-view fallback apply.
The opaque-surface test now uses the full new-session ancestry and a
transparent secondary background, so it catches this regression.

* chat: correlate sandbox warm-up requests with retry attempts
Give each sandbox warm-up retry a separate mock scenario and require the
captured request's latest user message to carry that attempt's tag.
This prevents a delayed request from receiving a newer reply or supplying
terminal-tool readiness for another attempt.
Share the existing latest-user tag matcher with the model-configuration
smoke suite, supporting both chat messages and Responses API input.
